Learning is so much fun when you are dressed up in costumes! We had a great Halloween celebration with a lot of fun centers. We have been doing a lot of math and literacy activities that go with the theme of Halloween. We have done pumpkin patterns, Halloween character graphing, candy corn addition, and so much more.

A warning about Bullying
Our school has a no bullying policy. Bullying will not be tolerated at all. A phrase teachers will be using when we intervene bullying is "not at our school". We encourage you to use this phrase and intervene any bullying you see. Just change the phrase to whatever works for the situation for example; "not in our neighborhood", "not on our street". Consequences for bullying will be severe. If we see a pattern in bullying we will get the principal and school counselors involved. Please contact me if you have questions.
A little bit about me
I'm Mrs. Bigelow. I have been teaching first grade for three years. I graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies with an Emphasis in Early Childhood Education. I am married and have two kids, Ella and Jack. I love to read, especially children's books, I also love hiking, camping, and going to movies. My favorite food to eat is Café Rio and my favorite treat is anything! I love treats! I also love teaching first graders!
A few rules and proceedures.
My goal for the
year is that your child will be a successful and happy student. In my class I
use preventive and supportive management discipline. The system includes rules,
rewards, and consequences for classroom behavior. I will assume the best about
all of my students. I assume they want to learn good behavior and the content
we will be focusing on. I include the students in creating our classroom rules
so they feel their voice is important and they will be responsible for their
actions and behavior. Although I do include the students in making the rules, I
generally have basic rules that will need to be followed.
1. Follow directions the first time given
2. Keep hands, feet, and all objects to
yourself
3. Raise your hand and use appropriate inside
voice
4. Show Respect (this is something we will be
focusing on throughout the year. The students are expected to respect me, their
peers, and property)
Welcome to your new class!
